| Commentary Subject: ABORTION I have often wondered why liberals, who are so concerned about the downtrodden and the disenfranchised, have seemingly failed to champion the rights of the unborn children. I guess I have always seen Abortion as not being the problem. The problem was the Unwanted pregnancy. It has been said that there is a notoriously non-sympathic attitude with many who have been opposed to abortion. That this is focused mainly at the unwed pregnant women. The attitude seems to convey that the fault and responsibility is the woman's problem and that carrying the pregnancy to term is in some way a burden of punishment for being pregnant. I am familiar with both sides of this issue from a male point of view. I have seen that it really does not matter if one chooses "Abortion" or "Carrying to term" the UN-wanted pregnancy. Both sides loose. I have talked with women who have chosen abortion and had to live with the night-mares that followed. I have talked with women that have chosen to carry their baby to term and felt the condemnation of society for being pregnant and UN-wed. I have a personal stake in this controversy. I have seen with my own eyes what could have been lost to me. And I thank God that the Abortion option was not taken. I have a personal stake in this controversy. He loves Wheel barrowing and playing baseball He learned early from his cousin about Baseball He loves to play with his little brother He likes his Grandpa to pile the leaves on him and to hide under them He really enjoys being the center of attention. He is learning about the freedoms he enjoys, from a childs viewpoint His grandfather is teaching him about "Free Enterprise" and the "American Way" and about celebrating the 4th of July in honor of "Freedom & Independence" My grandson went through a hell of his own just to be in this world, to begin with he had to beat the 10 million to one odds of just getting to fertilization, then when he was born he was larger than expected and the doctors had to break his arm to get him through the birth canal. I know because I was in the delivery room with my daughter. He spent the first ten days after his birth in an incubator with a splint on his arm and hooked up to oxygen and all the other monitoring devices required to tend to his needs. My daughter was lucky, she had a good support system in her family. Six children of my own and this was only the second time I had been in a delivery room. When his mom was born, that was my first time. We were not a family that was born with a golden spoon in our mouth. My father and mother were a great example to me, as far as I am concerned. I had a great childhood filled with fun, laughter, tears and pain. My first job was selling CloverIne Salve when I was only 11 years old. I want my grandchildren to have the opportunity to have similar experiences. I loved to go camping and fishing when I was younger. We have some wonderful places here in Missouri to enjoy what nature has to offer. We need to re-think the position ~ =============================================== ~ "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore, send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me: I lift my lamp beside the golden door." does this still represent the United States of America? Let me make a statement that I feel must be made if this challenge to our constitutional freedoms is to be resolved. Abortion is not the problem The UN-wanted PREGNANCY IS THE PROBLEM We in AMERICA do not have the support in place to really deal with the problem of unwanted pregnancy. I strongly feel that we are not dealing with pregnancy we are JUST talking about abortion. This problem can be better dealt with by building the self-esteem of young women and putting the responsibility of pregnancy directly on the participants of the pregnancy. I believe, American taxpayers have an obligation to set forth programs in education which build self-esteem and self-worth. Programs that value life and promote the well being of life. I believe, as I have always believed that Americans have compassion and conviction about doing the correct thing to resolve challenges that arise. It is this resolve that makes this a great nation. It is this resolve that makes us a leader in the world. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME SERIOUS DISCUSSIONS, PARTICULARLY WITH WOMEN. I KNOW THAT THERE IS A SOLUTION THAT WE CAN ALL LIVE WITH, IF WE ARE WILLING TO DISCUSS ISSUES SERIOUSLY. I AM AVAILABLE TO MEET AND DISCUSS POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS WITH AN OPEN MIND. There are times when we all get frustrated with situations, however, I cannot think of any place in this world I would rather live than AMERICA. I have seen a lot of the world and believe me, we got it so much better. If you have some suggestions or comments about "Abortion or Unwanted pregnancy" I would like to hear them.
